Company / Austin, Texas

38 people have built one parametric CAD application since 2014. Nothing else.

Solldworkss writes 3D CAD software for mechanical engineers and product designers. One product and one office in Austin. The support queue answers in English, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 18:00 Central. We stay small on purpose, and the product shows it.

01THE START

Started in 2014 because the files were not ours

Solldworkss started in Austin in 2014 with a complaint that every mechanical engineer has made at least once. A part modelled six years earlier would not open, or opened with half its feature history flattened, and the vendor's answer was to buy the current release. The people who started the company had spent long enough inside other CAD codebases to know that this is a decision, not a law of physics.

So the first thing written was not the modeller. It was the file format. The .swsx spec went down on paper before the sketch solver existed, and every release since has been held to it. A file saved in our current release, 2024.3, opens in release N+10. A customer who stops paying keeps sws-view and can read their own work forever.

The second decision followed from the first. If the files belong to the engineer, they live on the engineer's disk or the company's SMB share. We do not run a cloud and we have never wanted one. Plenty of buyers come to us looking for a SolidWorks alternative or an Inventor alternative for exactly that reason, and a few leave because they need a browser tool. Both are reasonable.

02WHO DOES THE WORK

Engineering, support and documentation under one roof

Thirty-eight people. They write the kernel, the constraint solver, the finite-element code and the drawing engine. They answer the support queue. They write the manuals, the API reference and the file-format spec you can read on the documentation page. There is no outsourced first-line support desk reading from a script; a support question about a mate that will not solve goes to someone who can open the source.

We have no sales team in the usual sense. A volume quote or a floating network licence is handled by the same people who handle support, which is slower on a busy Monday and much faster on a hard technical question.

What we will not do: take on a product outside mechanical CAD, or put the core modeller behind a subscription. The perpetual seat stays. Maintenance is optional and priced per year.

The failure we see most often in evaluations is a team expecting PLM. We integrate with Git-LFS, PDM Works, Teamcenter 13 and SharePoint through a documented REST adapter, and that is where the line is.

03DATES

Three dates worth knowing

We keep the history short. The changelog holds the rest.

  1. 2014

Company starts in Austin. The .swsx format is specified before the first line of modeller code, and the compatibility rule is written down: no release may break a file saved by the previous ten.

  2. 14 NOV 2024

Release 2024.3, build 18922. Parametric solid modelling with history, assemblies to 50,000 unique components, drawings to ISO 128 and ASME Y14.5, and linear static, modal and steady-state thermal solvers in the box.

  3. 2025.2

Nonlinear and transient solvers are scheduled for release 2025.2. CFD is not on the roadmap, and we would rather say so now than in a sales call.

04WHERE

One office, written out in full

Every engineer, support person and writer works from or reports into the same address. No regional resellers speak for us.

We build and test for Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11, 64-bit. The test lab is in the same building as the people who answer your ticket.

05HIRING

How we hire, step by step

Slowly. A team of 38 feels every bad hire for a year, so the process is written down and the same for every role.

  1. 01

    A written application

No CV keyword screen. Send a short note on something you built or fixed and what went wrong with it. Engineers who have used SolidWorks, Creo or Inventor in anger and can say precisely what annoyed them get our attention fast.

    REPLY WITHIN 10 BUSINESS DAYS

  2. 02

    A paid work sample

A small, real task from the backlog, sized at about four hours, paid at a fixed rate whether or not we go further. Support candidates answer three real, anonymised tickets.

PAID / NOT A TEST OF FREE TIME

  3. 03

    A conversation with the team

Two hours with the people you would work beside, walking through the sample. You ask as many questions as we do. Half the conversation is about our code and its weak spots.

IN AUSTIN OR ON A CALL

  4. 04

    A written decision

Yes or no, with reasons, in writing. We do not ghost candidates, and we do not run four rounds of interviews for one seat.

    DECISION WITHIN 5 BUSINESS DAYS

No open roles are advertised on this site. To be considered when one opens, write to [email protected] with "Hiring" in the subject line.

06WHO RUNS THIS SITE

The operator, named in full

This website is run by Solld Workss, trading at solld-workss.click. Solld Workss is a software business: it writes, licenses and supports one desktop 3D CAD application for mechanical engineers and product designers. It is also the controller of any personal data sent through this site.

The business is based at one office, at this postal address:

94 Industrial Blvd, Büro 5, Austin, Texas 68171, Austin, Texas, United States

This site and its legal pages are governed by the law of Texas, United States, with disputes heard in the courts of Austin. See the terms and the privacy policy.

07WHAT WE DO

What the business does, in checkable terms

Solld Workss develops a parametric 3D CAD application for Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11, 64-bit. The current release is 2024.3, build 18922, released on 14 November 2024. It covers part modelling with feature history, assemblies, drawings to ISO 128 and ASME Y14.5, sheet metal, CAM post-processing, and linear static, modal and steady-state thermal simulation. The modules are described on the module pages, the platform matrix on the product page, and the .swsx file format in the documentation.

The software is licensed as a perpetual seat with optional yearly maintenance; prices are published on the pricing page. A 30-day trial of the full Windows installer can be requested through the contact page.

This website informs and takes enquiries. Nothing is sold on it, no payment is taken on it, and it holds no accounts, passwords or card data. The company runs no cloud service and stores no customer design files.

08REACH A PERSON

How to reach a human, and when

Every message is read by the same people who write and support the software. There is no outsourced desk.

The phone and the support queue are answered in English, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 18:00 Central Time. Email sent outside those hours is read when the office next opens.

The same email address handles requests about personal data. A data request is answered within 7 days.

Judge the work, not the page

Thirty days on your own hardware says more than we can

The trial is the full Windows installer, not a cloud demo. Open your own STEP AP242 files, build your largest assembly, and read the product page for the platform matrix before you start.
